Summer Swim Team

The Reserve Riptide neighborhood swim team was established in 2006. We are members of the Greater Charlotte Swim League (GCSL) and follow their rules and regulations. The swim team consists of Reserve residents, as well as non-residents who are sponsored by a resident family.

Summer league provides an opportunity for swimmers of all ability levels and ages 5-18 to: begin the summer with an active lifestyle; improve their swimming abilities; make new friends and share good times; gain self-confidence through healthy competition, perseverance, success and failure.

This is not a “learn to swim” program. In order to be eligible for the swim team, 6 and under swimmers should be able to swim 10 meters without assistance at the first practice. All swimmers ages 7-10 should be comfortable in the pool and have the ability to swim freestyle and backstroke at least one length of the pool (25 meters). Ages 11+ should be comfortable in the pool and have the ability to swim freestyle and backstroke 50 meters. Swimmers who are not able to meet these benchmarks will need more time in swim lessons before joining the team. This basic level of proficiency is needed to ensure the safety and proper training of all swimmers during practices.

As a volunteer organization the Reserve Riptide depends on parent involvement to achieve its goals on behalf of our children. Parents are required and expected to support the Reserve Riptide by participating in and supporting various volunteer opportunities. Swim meets are conducted with parents as officials and volunteers in numerous duties ranging from judges, to timers, and to various support requirements. Social events are organized and administered by parents to help our children enjoy fun experiences associated with the hard work of practices and competitive swimming. Coordinating and managing the administrative and financial responsibilities of the Reserve Riptide requires the talents of volunteers as part of our swim team committee. The Reserve Riptide needs parents to be active, to be involved, to be participants, and to be supportive of those activities that benefit our children. Supporting the volunteer requirements of the Reserve Riptide is essential to the success and future of the Reserve Riptide.
