Age Groups

Swimmers will compete against other children of the same age and sex at six swim meets (3 home and 4 away) held on Monday and Thursday evenings in June. The age groups are divided as follows: 6 and Under, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14 and 15-18. The swimmer's age on May 31 will govern the group they are in for the entire season. Practices are also scheduled by these age groups.

6 and Under (Shrimpers) swim freestyle only during meets. Swimmers usually swim the individual event and possibly the freestyle relay depending on ability. The coaches may use their discretion to enter a 6U swimmer in other strokes should their abilities allow. All events for this age group are 25 yards or meters (one length of the pool).

7/8's and 9/10's practice all four strokes including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. They are allowed to swim a maximum of 3 individual events and 2 relays at a meet. The coaching staff decides which strokes each swimmer will participate in. All events for this age group are 25 yards or meters. Advanced swimmers may enter the 10 and under 100 IM.

11/12's, 13/14's and 15-18's practice all four strokes as well as an individual medley. They are allowed to swim a maximum of 3 individual events and 2 relays during a meet. All events for this age group are 50 yards or meters (the individual medley is 100 yards or meters).
